Before the SA democracy, The ANC wanted peace (thanx to madiba) and negotiations with the Nats but got nothing. The whites continued as normal not particularly interrested in what the blacks thought..they tortured and beat them.... Israel wants peace with the arabs! They have gotten peace with Egypt, Syria and Jordan...the palestinians dont want to talk... they aren't interrested, they torture and kidnap israelis... Israel is forced to negotiate with Egypt who talks with the palestinians.. A reason for this is the break between Hamas (The terrorist group as confirmed by the CIA) and Fatah (Moderate peaceful palestinians). Hamas didn't even allow international aid to reach Fatah supporters and they even killed 15000 of them... Why and how they were democratically elected remains a mystery to me...
With Fatah in charge Israel may have someone who is ready to listen...until then Israel will remain the ANC of the middle east!!

Hey Guys

While I agree to an extent with Jon's view that in Fatah Israel may have a reliable peace partner (for the moment) I disagree with the sentiment that Palestinians don't want peace, on the contrary I believe the majority of the Palestinians do want peace however due to mass corruption within Fatah, the issue of finding a peaceful resolution with Israel fell aside within the Palestinian psyche and made way for the more pressing issues of social and physical welfare. I think this was the cause of the rise of Hamas, as Hamas supplied the people with their needs and resultingly the Palestinian People supported Hamas despite their extreme views on Israel. With this said one has to bear in mind that any negotiation with Fatah can only be reliable while an organisation like Hamas still exists (not an Anti-Israel organisation but an opposition that can and will supply welfare if Fatah fails to do so), when Hamas poses no threat to Fatah, then Fatah can afford to allow its ranks to become corrupted again and then once again a politician's pockets become more important than the Peace Process and the Palestinians and Israeli's suffering on both sides.
